New Modern Defenses for the Catholic Faith Based in the Understanding of St. Thomas Aquinas

Orthodox Christianity
The first split in the original church was in 451, when several churches now known as the Oriental Orthodox Church rejected the Christology that was dogmatized at the Council of Chalcedon. The next split within the Chalcedonian church happened in 1054, following the dogmatized addition of the Filioque clause to the Latin Creed. This was largely due to political unrest in the Church. Issues such as the hypostatic union, the Filioque, and papal supremacy divide these communities from the Catholic church today. Orthodox Christians often have a heavy focus on maintaining the "mystery" aspect to Christianity while Catholics are legalistic and approach revelatory mysteries as objects to be analyzed and understood. The ultimate goal is to unite Orthodoxy with Catholicism through reason and exemplary holiness.
